Final weeks

We have reached the end stage of our building project and while everything is looking really good there is definitely a slowing down in the pace.  I am not complaining because I absolutely love how beautiful all these finishing touches are!  The past few weeks have been about crown molding, base molding, flooring, mantels, door/window caulking and book shelves.

The mason started on the fireplace.

And the heat and air guys finished their hookup, which means there is heat upstairs now too.

Color!

These bandits sprayed primer on the walls and painted the ceilings!
Between the end of last week and this week; the walls and ceilings got a coat of primer, the ceilings and closets received 2 coats of paint, and the walls received 1 coat of color!  Needless to say I am grinning this weekend!

Trim work

I love how deep the window sills are!
Another week of spackling has passed.

Along with finishing the spackling and sanding this week; the ceiling insulation was put in, the downstairs heat was turned on, the muddy swamp was turned into a crush-and-run driveway (paving will come later) and I finally made a decision on the paint colors!

Yesterday, the interior doors arrived, trim work began and our good friend Brent joined the work fray!  Hurray!!

Spackling

I forgot to post at the end of last week, so here is what took place…..

Spackling, spackling, spackling, spackling.

The fireplace was also delivered and installed.  And they began work for framing in around the fireplace to accommodate a recessed tv cabinet.

Safehold

I knew that I was pleased with how our house was coming along, but I had no idea that Rick was building us a castle, complete with our own moat!

It has been a treacherous trip across the divide since Thanksgiving and really should only be attempted with a good pair of wellies.  We have even had three trucks get stuck!

Please be sure to call ahead when visiting so that we can lower the drawbridge.

That was fast!

The truck dropped off the drywall on Thursday.

Saturday by lunch time all of it was hung! (Except for the fireplace because that will get installed on Tuesday.)

Next step, spackling.

Starting timer

Rick has told me that 2 weeks (possibly less) from the time the men start hanging drywall we should begin painting…..  Well the count down is on!

Yesterday morning all of the drywall was delivered and two men worked until 7pm hanging the ceiling on the second floor.

They took out a second floor window and lifted the sheetrock through that window.
So now I have less than 2 weeks to decide on my paint colors.  Yikes!  I started with at least a hundred and have it narrowed down to this:

Also this week the gutters for the house were installed.  Rick made them match the house and trim colors so they blend in perfectly!

See!  You can hardly tell there is a gutter in this picture!

Thanksgiving

I forgot to mention last week that I am thankful that the siding is all done!  I think it is looking great!!  Last week marked only the 12th week of building….hard to believe how far it has come since September.

Unlimited hot water…..ahh!
